If the dock is made of pressure treated wood it needs to be sealed in 2 to 6 months after installation. Some say that pressure treated deck boards are automatically protected from the elements. But the decking remains vulnerable to sun, UV light, moisture which cause mold, mildew, splitting, drying, cracking and graying. Regular applications prevent water damage and dry rot.
Keeping your timber decking well protected and looking simply beautiful is a real challenge. Firstly, the dock needs an inspection and proper preparation. Loose deck boards should be refastened, broken or splinted decks – replaced. Loose or weak handrail needs to be refastened, rotten hardware need to be replaced to make the dock safe.
